Artist Statement
Gena Destri is currently pursuing a full-time career as an artist in Austin alongside being a full-time mother. She has a BFA and currently is striving to solve riddles encountered in life through painting rough, abstracted memories, then fine-tuning them with playful lines, adding depth and focus to the simplest of paintings.
"I hope people can become faithful to themselves, their callings and desires, and to One who created faithfulness. Faithfulness is illustrated all around you, for example, the trees which grow tall and steady toward the sky and into the ground - that is their calling, and they do not fail in that. Things like this will remind you that you, too, can be faithful. You just have to remember to look before the doubts creep in."
Gena is currently accepting commissions and is always open to discussing ideas viewers would like to see put into visual, tangible 2-D creations.
Background
Gena grew up in Overland Park and Olathe, KS, graduating from Olathe South High School. She went on to attend Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating in 2006 with a BFA in Studio Art. She currently resides in Austin, TX pursuing a full time career in art while raising a little family full time as well.
